President Trump speaks at the Georgia World Congress Center

By Yasmeen Akbar

American citizens should not be subjected to the influx of violent crime that follows from having lackadaisical border patrol and illegal immigrants, President Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday as he spoke at the Georgia World Congress Center.

“Over the years, thousands of Americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country, and thousands of more lives will be lost if we don’t act right now,” President Trump said.

With 30,000 people in the crowd, President Trump received praise as supporters cheered throughout the speech.

“Democrats in Congress have refused to acknowledge the crisis and they have refused to provide our brave border agents with the tools they desperately need to protect our families and our nation,” Trump stated as he went into detail about his plans to enhance border security. He claimed that this is the reason the government is still shut down because Democrats have not signed a bill to fund the building of a protective barrier.

To build the physical barrier, as part of Trump’s plan to secure the border, law enforcement had requested $5.7 billion from Congress to fund this proposal.

“My administration has presented Congress with a detailed proposal to secure the border and stop the criminal gangs, drug smugglers and human traffickers,” President Trump stated. He assured that this new plan would be “safer than ever before.”

He explained that this new proposal would provide progressive technology that would aid in detecting illegal weapons, drugs and much more. The plan would also call for medical assistance and humanitarian support.

President Trump shared his condolences for those who have lost loved ones as a result of illegal immigration. “I’ve held the hand of weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers. So sad. So terrible. I will never forget the pain in their eyes, the tremble in their voices and the sadness gripping their souls,” Trump stated.

“I swore to protect our country and that is what I will always do, so help me God,” said Trump.

President Trump will be participating in the second presidential debate on Oct. 15.
